Modern Islamic and North African Interior Design Inspiration

Visiting 100% Design in early autumn I came across Mica, a gallery and interiors design company that specialises in modern Islamic and North African interior design and contemporary arts. Based in the UK Mica was founded in 2009 by Reedah El-Saie. At 100% Design, and also Decorex, Reedah launched Mica’s debut contemporary Islamic home interiors collection entitled ‘MICA Zen’. The collection is rooted in traditional Islamic art & architecture and centres on the point of infinity, embodying the principles of beauty and balance. Reedah sought to fuse Eastern holistic designs with Western creativity to create a stylish collection of Islamic and North African interior design that addresses the needs of modern day living.

The Mica Zen collection is characterised by modern geometric patterns, applied to vibrant statement wall coverings and worked into furniture such as chairs, tables and mirrors. The elegant furniture collections exuding understated luxury are handcrafted in Egypt, whilst the wall coverings are crafted in the UK. Displaying a more urban and vibrant edge, Reedah introduced the MICA Zen Rainbow collection of textiles and rugs, which is inspired by nature and the colours of the rainbow.

In 2010-12 Reedah launched MICA Creative, a social enterprise dedicated to delivering creative outreach projects in the local and international community. This has seen Reedah host art workshops in some of the most deprived regions in the UK. Reedah also had the opportunity to mentor and nurture artists for ‘My Place On The Isle: Exploring Faith & Identity in Britain‘, an exhibition which launched at the Saatchi Gallery during the 2012 Olympics to showcase creative talent from around the world.
